Today is my daughter’s first birthday!
Of course, she is a tiny baby who can’t talk and just learned to stand, so she has no idea that she should be celebrating or that one year ago she spent the morning floating around inside my wife and the evening holding onto my finger in a hospital nursery.
My wife already wrote some wonderful thoughts about what life has been like during our first year as parents on her blog. So since I am in the middle of very busy days at my first full-time TV writing job (because I figured having a kid was not enough of a life change for one year, why not also move to LA?), I will just add that I love my wife, I love watching her parent, I love being a parent with her, and if you have never experienced the joy of seeing your own child smile at you or laugh at you or hug you, then I hope you find that joy somehow because it’s indescribably amazing on a core level that I never knew existed until I felt it myself (starting right around six- or seven- months, until then the love you feel is much less visceral since the baby pretty much just eats, sleeps, cries, and poops.)
Also, I’m only one year in and I already understand why parents get so crazy about things like high school graduations and first dances at weddings. I’m going to be a mess.
Real sappy day happening around these parts! :„,)
