According to Wikipedia, the Republican party might want to rethink their party mascot (the elephant):Homosexuality African as well as Asiatic males will engage in same-sex bonding and mounting. Such encounters are often associated with affectionate interactions, such as kissing, trunk intertwining, and placing trunks in each other’s mouths. The encounters are analogous to heterosexual...
Help Me Look Better
How do I find out about good sample sales (besides Daily Candy)? Where do I shop to look nice and hip but not spend a lot of money? I’m in the middle of a fashion crisis (and wearing a 10-year old sweater as I write this) and need some help.
2 Girls, 1 Cup: The Show →
erockappel: Parodies of “2 Girls, 1 Cup” are SOOOO played out, yet people keep on making them. When I saw the title of this on the ballot at last night’s Channel 101 screening, I cringed. I was so ready to hate it. Unfortunately, it was my favorite video of the night. Really, really funny. I guess “2 Girls, 1 Cup” parodies will live on for as long as this show...
Token 'Angry About My Dead Mom' Post of the Day
You know how in elementary school you’d always make Mother’s Day presents or X-Mas gifts for your parents, and inevitably there was one kid missing a mom or a dad, and you were aware of how painful the gift-making must be for them but also didn’t give a shit because you were nine and had both your parents? Yeah. Currently, I am that kid and bridal magazines are those fucking...
Still Grieving
To Keep What I Love by Taije Silverman I asked my mother, Will you come sit on my bed? This was after I had walked home in the middle of streets, afraid of the dark. Everyone’s suffering comes in moments and then is forgotten. I gripped my mother’s hand. What is it? she asked. You don’t want to know, I promised. I do want to know, she said. Everyone I love is...

Any good news about research for Pancreatic Cancer is always very bittersweet for me. But still, this is aggressive fundraising and that makes me happy. Eventually I’d like to participate, but it’s still too hard for me right now.
10 Things I Hate About Heath Ledger Dying
1. I will never get to celeb spot him in Soho. 2. His death now overshadows Britney in the media, which means she is bound to do something super dumb to get the attention back. 3. His daughter is now Dad-less, which I imagine is confusing and awful even when your parents are rich and famous (ask Frances Bean). 4. He never got to redeem his recent bad outfit choices with a hot new look. 5. He...
Tuna tuna tuna
Eek! Tuna samples from the Manhattan restaurants Nobu Next Door, Sushi Seki, Sushi of Gari and Blue Ribbon Sushi and the food store Gourmet Garage all had mercury above one part per million, the “action level” at which the F.D.A. can take food off the market. (The F.D.A. has rarely, if ever, taken any tuna off the market.) The highest mercury concentration, 1.4 parts per million, was found in tuna...

Although, geez, pretty much all of the classes are sold out!! Is there another place I should take them? Or is UCB pretty much the only (good) show in town? (It’s the one most people recommend, at least) — juliaallison I am a super UCB teacher.
the women in my life are funnier than the men. maybe men have been in the humor game for too long, and our sensibilities are becoming a little meta. but i find women to be generally more free and shameless as well as more in tune with subtlety. with men, there’s a sense of “making a joke,” whereas with women there’s more of the pure ability to be funny. obviously all that...

Despite Doubts, Cancer Therapy Draws Patients →
My aunt went to Mexico to receive treatment for her lung cancer back in the 90s (it did not work). This article made me chuckle (though it’s not funny) because one of the first things my mom said after she was diagnosed was that she wasn’t going to Mexico to get some weird treatment. I miss her.

This Australian kid threw a party while his parents were out of town, 500 people showed up and terrorized the neighborhood. Some news station gets him for an interview and he is not sorry about it at all. Thanks, Purns.

I love horses and I do not eat meat, so this article in the NY Times was extra awful for me to read.
